Background to Professor Gerald Holtmann, MD
Professor Holtmann was appointed Director of Gastroenterology Hepatology and General Medicine at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in 2004 and is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Adelaide.
He graduated in 1985 in Medicine and trained at the University Hospital Essen, Germany and the Mayo Clinic Rochester MN, USA. He is currently vice president of the German "Gastro-Liga" and has been elected member of the international Rome III committee. He co-authored the Technical Review of the American Gastroenterological Association: "Evaluation of Dyspepsia" and is the author of "The Clinician's Handbook for Dyspepsia". Together with N.J. Talley, he edited two multi-author books entitled Functional Dyspepsia and Irritable Bowel Syndrome: Concepts and Controversies (1998) and Inflammation and Disturbed GI function (2000). He has authored more than hundred publications in peer reviewed journals including the most prestigious international Journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Gastroenterology, Gut and the American Journal of Gastroenterology.
During the last 5 years he has been invited speaker to more than 20 international scientific meetings, including the Digestive Disease Week of the American Gastroenterological Association.
